What It Means to Be a DAPA Ambassador
Provide cultural, educational, recreational, and lifelong learning opportunities for young people through missions outreaches in Barbados and locally.
Offer life skill classes aimed at helping young people understand their potential as it relates to character, communication, and effectiveness. Provide mentoring services with a strong emphasis on goal setting, time management, and day to day life skills.
Promote peer-to-peer interaction between culturally diverse young people as they assist each other during mission and outreach activities in their perspective communities.
OUR OBJECTIVES
Provide activities in missions and outreach, cultural and artistic programs, financial literacy, marriage/family planning, and health programs. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of each activity as it relates to discovering/rediscovering one’s unique purpose.
Conduct life skills classes twice a year for a minimum of 8 young people. Increase knowledge and awareness about overseas Missions.
LIFE SKILLS CURRICULUM
This curriculum has three keys areas of learning with two activities geared toward helping young people build strong skills while managing the challenging passage into adulthood.
Young people can attend classes of their choice, however, everyone will be required to complete the Kendall Life Languages Profile. A tool used to help you understand the uniqueness of who you are and how to communicate with others.
The Kendall Life Languages Profile will be used to help with positive self-discovery resulting in character-centered communication.
Project Jabez is designed to assist with the bonding process while in a group setting (this is done on a volunteer basis).
The financial literacy classes teach money and credit management to include taxes and building/keeping good credit, basics of investing, and choosing life/health policies.
Personal/professional etiquette classes teach how to act properly while in various settings in this rapidly changing society.
The marriage and family planning classes share valuable need to know information about marriage, family, and raising children.
Health programs will include classes on disease prevention, obesity, mental health, sexual health, and suicide prevention. The course will also include nutrition management and self-defense.
